Bill, I was waiting for you to bring this up... (Thx again for sending it)
The I. Albicans that I was sent was planted in a garden full of bearded
irises. This iris is GREAT. It's the only one that I haven't had to attack with
a pair of scissors to cut back unsightly dead leaves. It's the only one whose
name has stayed written on the leaf, and is as clear as the day I got the iris
in the mail. (BTW---what did you use to label this iris??? I want one!)
Maybe it's doing so well because it's in one of my "honors" beds. If an iris
is in one of these beds, there are certain circumstances surrounding its
acquisition. For instance, I won I. Albicans in the contest. My Aitken's order
is in these gardens. Sindjkha, a TRADE I made with the Spears' from Argyle
Acres is in these gardens. Everything I bought at the Fort Worth sale made it
into these gardens, as did all of the things I bought at the auctions. So
anyway, those are my "honor" gardens. By far the most work (at least fiscally)
to plant.
