HIST: Buttrick Irises

From: Bill Shear <BILLS@hsc.edu>

George Watkins--I'm wondering if you are related to Robin Sedgwick, who
asked me about Buttrick irises during a book-signing recently. I wish I
could offer more help, instead of just stale memories, but while I was a
graduate student at Harvard, I often visited the Buttrick farm just across
the river from where the rude bridge arched the flood. At that time goodly
numbers of Buttrick irises were being grown there, and of course (30 years
ago) it was still possible to get them from almost any iris catalog.

Anner Whitehead, who often posts to this list, is a force majeur in the
Historic Iris Preservation Society. If she has not already contacted you,
you should respond to her private e-mail address (which unfortunately I
don't have on file). If you know the varieties you want, she has a
database that can find sources for you.

CUP RACE was a wonderful iris that surely is still being grown, as are many
other Buttrick hybrids.
