I used to grow both Helen Collingwood and Elizabeth Noble when I lived on a
farm in Kansas, but it has been so long ago I can't verify your description.
As far as a grey/purple/brown iris, the one that you either love or hate is
"Jungle Shadows", an iris hybridized by John Ohl. It is an old iris,
introduced I think in the 60's. I grew it then and in the 70's but didn't
really care that much for it. Grew it only because John gave it to me and
after he died gave it up. Really it is a love/hate iris, one or the other,
but certainly fits the category that Christy was looking for.
I live on the western slope of the Rockies here in Colorado now, and am
anxious to see how the iris I brought with me from Kansas will do here at the
higher elevation. Planted TBs, SDBs, MTBs, louisianas, and spurias. Would
like to get some siberians too, but don't have much room in the yard of this
house that does not belong to us. Have enjoyed reading the mail so far. I'm
new....so "Hello" to everyone :). Pat
