After seeing an artful photo of JUNGLE SHADOWS, I was crazy for it. Then
during prep for the AIS Conv. late last May I saw it in bloom in Glenna
Chapman's Host Garden south of Denver & went "oh..." Big disappointment.
It may just be that JS was wildly upstaged by the masses of terrific
irises all over that garden or its particular setting or the intense
sunlight or something, but I no longer have it on my must-have list.
Hope to see its flowers again sometime in a different situation to see
if my original enthusiasm will be rekindled.

Hello back at ya, Pat. I'm on the eastern slope in Evergreen, just off
I-70 west & south of Denver. Where are you living now? I spent my early
childhood in Smith Center & Topeka, KS where I remember that all irises
were called "flags".
Your transplanted "flags" should do very well for you in CO, except
maybe the Louisianas -- it's too cold & too dry for them where I am at
7,400' -- but East Slope/West Slope weather is very different so they
may be just fine after all. I grow all that you do (well, ONE spuria, a
gift this summer) plus SIBs, mucho I. reticulata & I planted a raft of
Arilbreds in August, for which I have big hopes in this "high desert"
climate.
