Thanks Jeff, I had forgotten this connection between the two.
My "maybe Helen Collingwood" iris has particularly surprised me in the
way it has arisen in my garden. It came from a friend who gave me a
number of irises about 7 years ago. It has bloomed once, 2 years ago. It
had one flower then, the odd one out in a large clump of 'OLD BLUE'
When Elisabeth Noble flowered last year, I thought this was the same
iris.
Last year, I divided the clump of blue iris (about 50 rz's) potted the
best 20, and gave the rest to a friend. (I have another large clump of
the blue iris) Today I counted 30 rz's of my "HC?".
This reminds me of the lengthy discussions re reversion of iris colours,
and reinforces the fact that an iris can be there, healthily
multiplying, for many years, then bloom in profusion, and cause much
confusion. Elisabeth Noble has also taken 6 years to establish, but is
increasing happily.
Cheers, Jan Clark, in Australia
