Dennis,
     Are you talking about the yellow walking Iris?  You may need to try to
find a humid microclimate for it.  If my information is correct, you were
in a humid part of Hawaii.  The Yellow Walking Iris blooms like crazy here,
but this climate is a lot more humid than the California desert.  Some of
my plants are still blooming.  The plant you sent from Hawaii, and those
locally grown survived being outside at 24 F.
