Kathy,
Up here in the tundra of the Zone4/5 borderlands the Dutch iris always put
some foliage up in the fall. I noticed some poking through the ground just
this weekend where there was none a week ago. Mind you, they don't let all
their foliage hang out in the fall the way the grape hyacinths do, just
enough to let you know where they are and that they are still there
and thinking about coming out all the way when the weather turns warmer.
I'd say they never get up more than three or four inches before the cold
weather sets in for certain and they get second thoughts. At least, that
has been my experience here.
