Thanks to Kathy getting home long before I did, she gave the report of the AIS Board Meeting--covered most topics which y'all are interested in--it really is great to be a part of a group so dedicated to the enjoyment of flowers-- If anyone has the AIS Bulletin--check the 'store-front'--according to Nancy Pocklington, there are many packs of postcards, three different sets--which can be purchased at low prices--the pictures are great and are good enough to be mounted like a photo-- I am working on a project to make earrings and pins from the pictures from the calendars--the pictures there are also great-mounted as for photos--I have 'October 1998' as the wallpaper on my computer--I like orange Iris-- Also a pitch for the next-year calendars--great price--great gifts!! Jan--you mentioned Silky hens--having Bantams around Iris--do they eat the buds? At dinner last weekend we were discussing Bantys and Peacocks--and it seems that Peacocks' used as pets, is not too good an idea for Iris growers--Peacockse at buds of everything!!! Daylillies, Iris, plus new leaves and any other plant part which tries to grow-- There was a question about plant markers--we use the ones mentioned at our club garden--slowly replacing the 'Rose Markers" and they seem to be good--saw them used at Denver in June, several places, with the labels done by a label maker which can be bought at Wal-Mart and has letters large enough so that one does not have to bens almost to ground level to read it!! (Only drawback is that your garden with all the markerscan be mistaken for a pet cemetery. A good source for Japanese Iris is Lorena Reid, 41886 McKenzie Hwy.,Springffield, OR 97478 She knows which ones will grow where--she has hybridized many of them--and her garden will be on tour next year when Portland hosts the Japanese Iris Show next year-- Carryl inWestern Montana Zone 3/4 where we now have 4" of snow--and it is cold!!! so my gardening days are over till next Spring--( and who had a lonnnnnnggggg trip getting home from Boston--just imagine how you would feel--if, when the plane is backing out from the Jetway, a door falls off???) Took a while to fix that--so missed connecting flights, spent a night in Salt Lake City, got on another plane this morning, it had hydralic trouble, off loaded everyone, took another plane and came home via Seattle--just think of all the frequent-flyers mile I earned!! and all the interesting reading waiting for me here!!!
