I too would be willing to pre-order a copy of the index.  I think of
all the hours I have spent going through book after book looking for
information and see how much time it would save me.  I also see a BIG
use for this for the societies.  I would even go so far as to say that
every society ought to have a copy.  When it comes time to do
classification it would speed it up tremendously.  You could quickly
look up a name, note the year, and go to the correct R & I to verify
that the iris someone is trying to show is in fact correctly named.
	I also agree with the worry that there will be a lot of "illegal"
copies being run at the local copy shop with only 50 of them available.
	I think if AIS took early orders and then ran an additional 50 copies
it would come a lot closer to meeting the need.
	From here it would be easy to put the index on CD-Rom and make it even
more easily accessible.
