Ellen, who heard it all,,says:
<< Frankly, I think the net is *not* the way for AIS to make money
on the registration information. Selling of CD-ROMS or whatever
is the money-maker for us. The net is the avenue to encourage
folks to take an interest in AIS and join, etc.>>
I concurr. And pay per view sounds unworkable to me.
<< Now the Index is/will be completed, put the darn thing on the
AIS web page OR since it is copyrighted, some techies can
figure out someway to do it legally. The R & I's are floating
around out there after all....>.
How about making the raw index public domain six months after the initial hard
copy offering and sticking it up on the AIS page? Clearly it won't compete
with any broader electronic version or necessary periodic updates of same that
come along.
Make the hard copy available only by prepaid subscription at the convention.
Put it on the registration form. If you want it to sell make it unique. Stick
a few photos in there, include a cogent and inspired essay on our glorious
electronic future in the new millenium, get the luminaries to personalize each
copy and number the print run. Collectibility does not convey with
photocopying.
<< I strongly agree with Chris H., Walter and John that the
electronic list should be the initial or primary vehicle for
publication.>>
And I can envision a whole series of electronic searchable resources.. ...
<< As an aside, I watched the Board Members closely when this was
being discussed and those that are not on-line sort of glazed
over....>>
