That is WONDERFUL news! Howard is definitely going full steam ahead to
get this done, and if I read this correctly, if he wants to release the
index to us electronically, maybe he can? All we need is a volunteer
(non-AIS sponsored) website thingy to download from? And I assume he
can also release the database to us - then we can all grouse about it
together - what fun!

If I understand correctly, AIS has sanctioned the Index, but may or may
not sanction the database (well, we know they will, but maybe not right
away).

Bill Stone makes an important point - all us geeks want to make sure we
can access the data, but perhaps the majority of AIS members won't want
to. We can access the data on behalf of non-electronic folks, but the
biggest advantage to most members of getting the checklist in digital
form will be for future additions, "revisions" (maybe 'errata' is a
better word) to keep down costs to AIS members in the long-run.

So, Howard Hughes, keep up the good work!
