HYB : Thornbird (A dog or not a Dog... That is the question)

Well said!! Particularly the bit about the 3 opinions being stated as
fact. Arrogance with a capital A.

Many of us out here in the rest of the world don't have your huge choice
of Space Agers. All you guys out there should be thankful you have access
to all of them. I've got one space ager at this point (Deity) with a
number on order from the two main nurseries we actually have here in this
country. I'd love to import more but given that to import an iris into
this country I'd need to pay around $500 for quarantine, plus whaever I
paid for it in the first place, I don't think its going to happen in the
near future :-)

I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a piece of Thornbird from Jan
Clark soon. I'm intending to form my own opinion instead of listening to
what I have been TOLD I'm going to think about it. Obviously if its such a
dog it must be a popular dog..... or else the Dykes Medal is just a heap of
....!! (Which I don't think it is I might add, at least from the little I
know about it).

I'm looking forward to crossing with it simply because of its instability.
If it is so unstable who knows what it is going to throw. Given that it
varies in colour, with horns or spoons or whatever, it MIGHT pass this
trait on to its progeny, but it also might pass a stable form of something
that we don't already have. If you've lost the wonder or interest in this,
then why in the world are there hybridisers out there. Isn't creating
something new the thrill??? I'm definitely only a starting hybridist, and
I'm looking forward so much to seeing if my crosses of re-incarnation (that
Sterling Okase sent pollen of to me) end up taking. Every flower will be a
new thrill (be they dog or whatever)

Anyhow, I haven't responded to a heap of things recently but this one was
worth it. I'd be interested to know poeple's thoughts on this, either on
or off the list.

	Cheers People!!

Canberra, Australia.... where the TBs are just finishing, I. pseudacorus is
flowering, Holden Clough is wonderful (isn't it a great colour), Gerald
Darby is in full bud (right behind the I. pseudacorus variegata and making
a statement!) the JAPs, Louisianas and Spurias are setting up buds and
we've just had a good dose of rain which will bring everything on a treat.
