Hi Jeff and Talk-ers,

Thanks for finding that article for me. I looked through the last couple
of years of bulletins and somehow missed it. There was one more thing
regarding Conjuration that I forgot to mention. From my experience,
Conjuration is a real iffy breeder. I have had it for about six years
now and have been trying to get seeds from it either way with no luck. I
assumed it was sterile. Well, this past spring, it decided to make up
for all my failed attempts in years past. It put out lots of fertile
pollen that gave me pods on everything I daubed and anything I put on
Conjuration set pods. I managed to get seeds from nearly every flower. I
think maybe the warm El Nino weather played a part in its fertility but
I can't imagine why.

Bruce Filardi in Portland Oregon said he has had trouble getting seeds
from Conjuration also but tells me that Schreiners and the Suttons have
been using it to breed with. I guess with reluctant irises such as
Conjuration, it helps to have four thousand plants lined out. More
chances of success? Has anyone else noticed Conjuration's sporadic
fertility?
