I just visited the daylily database.
Thank you for showing us what AIS could do if it could keep up to the daylily people!
It will be great when something like this is available for irisarians. Perhaps this is not the most perfect database for daylilies, but I would prefer a starting point short of perfection and in the near future, even in THIS MILLENIUM, to perfection at some far point in the next millenium or the one after
that.

Surely, the index has been compiled in computerized form. I would think that the yearly checklists are in computerized form. I guess the problem is that all that time has been spent entering data in a "word processor program " instead of a database program. Is this true? If so, what a shame! I'll be very
disappointed if the 90s checklist is available only in print form. I think an electronic 90s checklist should be a definite and serious goal of AIS and if need be, they can work back from there a decade at a time. I think there is a need for both hard copy and electronic forms. It is much easier to carry
hardcopies with you to shows, meetings etc., unless of course you have a portable computer!

Even if the database were available on the web, I would want it in CD form so that I could access it without being online. Of course online upgrades would be nice!

I wish AIS were more inclined to utilize the available volunteer knowledge and data entry help that could get this accomplished sooner. Perhaps AIS needs a new "computer committee" or something.
