Anner: I saved and just re-read your recent message regarding sources
who sell historic iris, and I finally remembered to get a bit of info. I
have the feeling that you probably have these in your list already, but
in case you don't, well, o.k.
Foxes' Iris Patch, 92 48th St., SW, Huron, SD 57350-6543. I know Vince
and Donna Fox well, in fact, they are the people who introduced
me to AIS and got me into organized "irisdom". They have a lot
of historics, have a really great garden to visit, and they will
ship anywhere. Vince is also editor of the Region 21 Bulletin.
I can vouch for their stuff.
Newburn's Iris Garden, 1415 Meadow Dale Dr., Lincoln, NE 68505-1940. I
have not ordered from Gene nor visited his garden, though I've
met him. I do know his garden is fairly extensive, and he lists
a lot of historics. Hope to visit there next spring.
Parsons Iris Gardens, 1347 N. 26th St., Lincoln, NE 68503. I don't know
anything about this one other than that I got a sales listing
from him last spring. He describes his garden and selling end
of things as "a hobby that got out of hand." I guess we can all
identify with that.
Not relevant to commercial sources, but a question you can perhaps
answer for me. When I joined HIPS a couple years ago I was asked to
fill out a listing of all historic iris I owned. That list is rather
outdated already, since I lost some of the ones I had then and have
gotten some others. Is there an intention that members annually file a
new listing or something like it? Otherwise it seems to me the list
didn't do much, if any, good to anyone. Maybe I missed the boat
somewhere.
Arnold (wholly beside the point: the last blossom of both Queen
Dorothy and Low Ho Silver, which we cut when frost finally struck on
Nov. 3, faded away in the vase overnight. Friday the 13th! , but an
incredible date for the last iris in northwest Iowa. This should have
occurred weeks ago.)
