I'll tackle the WHY question first, then tack a five-generation ahnentafal
chart onto the end of this. More than five generations back, there is so
much tripling of lines that it gets rather complicated.
1. It has been used by a number of different hybridizers, usually a
sign of multiple strengths.
2. Its offspring come in a variety of colors & patterns, including
some I like to use with arilbreds.
3. Its ancestry includes plicatas, bicolors, selfs, and zonals -- a
potpouri of possiblities.
I can almost hear Gene Hunt exclaiming "just think of the genes it must
contain!" so would like to explore just how well it transmits its strong
reblooming tendency to its offspring.
I hope that Walter will tackle this question, too, because he's the one who
originally brought this up, and would certainly welcome any thoughts Dr. Z.
might like to contribute.
