I seem to remember Bill Maryott commenting to me that soil ph was a
significant factor in color differences between the same cv grown in different
places. I would venture to add that ph affects dramatically what minerals are
available to the plant, and is probably also associated with a difference in
soil types. So maybe a more general comment of "different soil types" is a
more realistic causative agent.
I know that Tennesses Gentleman and others of Sterling Innerst's tend to grow
a little "muddier" for me here that they do in other locations. That is not a
general comment on his iris, just how it grows for me.
