Dennis Krumb and others:
'Marvell Gold', though it was registered recently, was actually collected
back in the 1930s by the late Frank Chowning of Little Rock. Frank, one of
the greats in hybridizing Louisiana irises, found this iris near Marvell,
Phillips County, Arkansas--which is in the Mississippi alleuvial plain.
Apparently Chowning never registered the iris, and I understand Jim Waddick
did it several years after Chowning died.
It is a very vigorous iris in my garden.
Also, we plan on giving a rhizome of this iris to everyone who registers
for the 1999 Society for Louisiana Iris national convention in Little Rock.
