In Louisiana iris history during the days of collection, VINICOLOR
was discovered and thought to be a species. In some old literature it is
referred to as i. vinicolor. However, about the time the Abbeville reds
were discovered and Dr. L. F. Randolph was doing his investigations into
native LA's, VINICOLOR was disenrolled and declared to be a hybrid. It is
my understanding that the Abbeville reds are hybrids too, but for some
reason VINICOLOR was picked on and demoted.
