Georgia Hinkle article in ROOTS, Spring '98

From: RYFigge@aol.com

I'm trying to clear up the chaos in the house now that I have to live with it
- it's too cold to stay oudoors as I have been - in the garden. So I re-read
that issue of ROOTS - I love articles about the history of irises or their
names. And this one is so touching. Her SOUTHERN COMFORT has alway been a
favorite of mine and I have it and AMERICA'S CUP at the beginning of my
DYKE's bed with the sign "they should have been a DYKES" !!!
I try to keep a few of the old ones that are favorites.
Here is a puzzle because I don't "know" them as I hope someone who reads this
will. Went to the lst birthday party of my youngest great-grandson and in the
front yard was a beauitiful deep royal purple iris with a whjite beard. It
ws definitely an "oldie" and was there when my granddaughter and husband
bought the housel . ( She had moved the irises from Virginia which I had given
her.and when I made her a Life Member -- THAT is a good Christmas idea for the
younger family members) Rosalie nr Baltimore, zone 7. ryfigge@aol.com
