Hi Vince--welcome, and am glad that you are a RVP--you will be hearing from
me shortly, as I am Chair of the AIS Nominating Committee this year--(also
RVP Region 11) and this also is to all AIS members--any person can be
nominated for a position as AIS Board of Director--we are now composing
letters to go to all AIS Leadership, asking for nominations--and will
gladly accept them from any AIS member--so if you want to nominate someone,
please mail me privately--Thanks--
And thanks for the info about Nematodes--I remember studying the ones which
effect human health in Parasitology class ( long time ago) but do not know
that much about the others--'cept that the ones from Gardens Alive did help
the carrots--
Just had a question to me--in cold areas, do the Iris leaves freeze back
all the way--thus having to grow a complete set of new leaves every year?
Yes, here they do--what about other cold areas? I do not clip my leaves
off--having an air space under the snow seems to cut down on the number
which succomb to dry rot during the winter--maybe just a coincidence that
year I did not have time to trim them--so now do not worry about trimming
leaves--the bed looks sorta lumpy under the snow--but in years when we have
good snow cover--less freeze-thaw cycles--more Iris survive to grow again
in the spring.
Hope everyonehad a goor 'Turkey Day'--we are having our feast Friday--get
to watch football all day!!!! Carrylin western Montana- Zone 3/4-where we
keep having rain and wind and not much snow yet
