Since the weather here is too perfect today, I just had to get out in the
garden and do a bit of maintenance. Much to my surprise there was a
bloomstalk coming up on a newly planted iris. It was Little Show Off and
it was planted in August and bought from Sutton's Green Thumber.
Amazing! It's a very small bloomstalk, and it doesn't appear to have been
blasted yet, so I will tend to it and see if I can't get this thing to
bloom for me in December. It sounds impossible, but the weather forecast
is calling for sunny 70 degrees this coming weekend. I don't know if El
Nino is still at work, or what, but we have not yet had any significant
snow fall, which is almost unheard of.
I know this doesn't exactly count as Zone 6 rebloom. In my opinion an iris
has to have been in the ground at least one full year to get acclimated to
the new environment. But if anyone else in Zone 6 has had Nov/Dec rebloom
on this cultivar, well, then, I just can't wait till next year to see it
again!
And now, I'm off to go finish up my garden clean up. This weather is just
too exquisite!
