I agree here. Mine are pushed next to the ground to make them as obscure
as possible. I'd prefer it if they were a murky green or red clay color,
so even
less obvious. But I was spending an inordinate amount of time just trying
to
keep them legible. Also, I use the two wire stakes since the armadillos do
not rearrange them as readily (actually they never have these....yet).
Since
I was trying to get something non-fading, my end result is a very
professional
botanical garden looking tag. I can't trust my memory with so many, and
everything here is on a slope and subject to erosion if something isn't
planted
to stop one of our Texas torrents, so my plantings are necessarily closer
than
I would do on flat ground. Add to these the fact that nothing is in a row.
That is both my personal inclination and dictated by the many rock
outcroppings
and swales which the beds are designed to accomodate. I use maps, but I'm
afraid they aren't all that accurate in scale and the beds are so irregular
that
I don't trust them either.

I sure didn't defend anything. I really do like to do as I please as much
of the
time as possible. Actually, I made fun of the professional look myself
when I
put the tags out. After all, they are just for me and anything which
doesn't
fade and stays put would do just as well. An earlier visitor did say they
reminded
him of a pet cemetary.
