About two months ago, someone up the street in cleaning out their yard,
tossed an iris rhizome out with weeds, grass clipping etc. Because the front
of my property is left natural woods, many of the neighbors toss their weeds,
grass cutting, etc., in the woods. I have posted signs that this is private
property, etc., but it seems to do no good.
But to get to my problem, I picked up this small rhizome, it looked dead, but
I said I will see what Happens. I planted it and after a week or two it
produced a leaf and some more leafs etc. Today I went out to check on my
plants as it is starting to get cold, no big frost yet, but today it is in
the low 40's and the evenings are in the mid 30's. This little rhizome has a
stalk with two buds on it. What is it and what color I do not know? What I
would like to know is how can I protect the plant so it will bloom. I really
did not think that this would happen, but now I may have a bloom. If it
blooms now what will happen to it. Will I lose it as it will not be too long
before we will have a freeze? They are saying that toward the end of the
week we will be having warmer weather. Any ideas will be appreciated.
