Rosalie,
     I wonder if consistancy of temperature may have something to do with 
this.  I think that winter temperatures in Florida are more volatile than out 
on the west coast.  We can have severe freezes, then be in the 80's a few 
days later, then do it all again, so the chilling hours are not that 
consistant.
