That is an interesting idea. Where I live, we normally have a month to 6 weeks of night time temperatures below freezing.

Would the difference in southern Florida amd Arizona/Cali. be at the other
end of the scale than high temperature? If I understand the problem, it is
the low temp that is necessary. At least I have heard that if Southern
Florida wants tulips, they have to be refrigerated for some time before
planting/ And I think bearded irises also need a touch of low temps,
