Jim,

Note the commentary and analysis of toxic heavy metals in ironite and
other products found in the following two sources. We're being warned
about the potential consequences of poisoning our soils with hazardous
heavy metals found in unregulated or virtually unregulated fertilizers.
Apparently, the industry cannot be relied upon to communicate reliable
advisories about such hazards to the consumers using their products.

"Comment: I'd avoid Hoffman Iron Sulfate, and especially I'd avoid
Ironite and Nu Life Trace Elements. The last two look like they dredged
up the toxic waste from the Tacoma tide flats near where the smelter
used to be. Just look at the Lead!"

in 20 home fertilizer products>

"Testing of garden fertilizers finds some safe, some not...Ironite was
so high in arsenic and lead that the Department of Health issued a
warning to consumers on May 8, following questions from The Times.
Ironite is made from Arizona mine tailings."
