A 1/2 ton truck load limit is 1000 lbs. Now days most full size trucks (
1500 , 150) are what is referred to a heavy 1/2 ton. 1500 lb capacity. 250
or a 2500 is a 3/4 ton. 350 or a 3500 is a 1 ton capacity.

At your own risk you can carry a little more. If you bottom out the springs
you are asking for trouble. It is way over loaded.

A 8 ft bed on a full sized truck filled level with sand is almost 4 ton .

My guess that wet compost is about 1/2 as heavy as sand.

Some of the people that load your truck laugh when you leave after
overloading you. You are the one responsible for how much they put on. Most
places have signs telling you so.

Some people like to brag how much there truck will haul. I paid for my
truck I am going to take care of it even if I have to make two trips.

My guess on a short bed, 1/2 ton Toyota pickup truck a little less than
level full would be ok.
