Jan,
Your estimate of your trailer's capacity is quite accurate, as from its
dimensions it can hold 24 cu. ft. and 2/3 of a cubic meter is equal to a
shade over 23.5 cu. ft. However, the weight estimate (for mulch or potting
soil) seems too high. A tonne (metric ton) is equal to 2200 lbs. and Cindy
Rivera says that a yard (i.e., a cubic yard=27 cu. ft.) of potting soil
weighs 900 lbs. If she is close to being right, you should probably
cut your weight estimate for this kind of material by somewhat
more than half.
I also found what you said about designating lumber dimensions interesting.
Not so much the mixing of metric and English system terms, but rather the
part about designating width and thickness as "4x2". Here it would be
customary to say "2x4". I guess which side of the Equator you are on
does affect your point of view. (-:
