Mother nature takes it out of your hands in many cases. Even when planted
'out' at the first opportunity, many seedlings will die within the first
year. How many die will depend on the cross and your local conditions.
Many seedlings do die when held over in pots--even with the best of care.
Who can be appropriately attentive 24/7/365? This is not all bad. If
strength and all around growability are your goal, it can be good. The
stronger seedlings in a cross will often survive severe neglect. But it
delays bloom an entire year. Many of us are too impatient.
