Rosalie,
OMAR THE TENTMAKER is listed as OB-. This means it is a quarter
arilbred and all the aril ancestry is oncocylus. Not as common as the
OGB (- or + depends on the amount of aril ancestry) which contains
both oncocylus and regelia as aril ancestors. Since the balance of
the 3/4 is eupogon iris, if those were rebloomers, then it stands to
reason that an arilbred could also rebloom. In this case the cross was
(GINGERBREAD MAN x I. balkania) X WELCOME REWARD. Do you
know if these have rebloom or are known to produce rebloomers? As
for the bud count, most of my 1/2 arilbreds and 1/4 arilbreds produce
at least four or more buds. The 3/4 arilbreds have had a tendency to
only produce the terminal and side bud, but there have been a couple
of those that have produced more and even, on occasion, just a terminal
bud. Pure arils of oncocylus type produce only a terminal bud whereas
the regelias produce the terminal and and a bud, as I understand it.
Maybe you should give some of those with lower aril content a try.
I have a few that are existing happily with the TBs. But then my TBs
may have more desert-like conditions than most folks, at least the last
several years. Sadly, I think damper conditions year 'round and longer
cooler falls may be required to achieve decent rebloom. Nothing I have
is even hinting at trying this year. Not even BABY BLESSED or GOLD
REPRISE, which have both been more inclined in years past than my
other rebloomers.
