CULT: late planting/dividing

When considering late season dividing/planting, keep in mind the
potential risks & benefits as well as the causes of risks and whether or
not you can do anything about them. For example, if digging and
dividing a big clump might result in a lot of the rhizomes being killed,
that might not matter if you would be happy with a few in a new place.

On the other hand, if you want to move a clump/plant that hasn't been
doing very well to a better location, it might be a bit less than
healthy and the risk of killing it might be higher without some extra
protection from temperature extremes/fluctuations.

I'm faced with the latter in a batch of tiny increases from some newer
introductions that I started in sand in spring and another batch started
in August. I'm not sure whether they will suffer more leaving them in
pots or trying to set them out, but will probably put most of the larger
ones out in the garden rows under some kind of protection for the winter
(Reemay or leaves).
