Another native of the Northeast is Iris prismatica. It's not as robust
as I. versicolor and prefers "wet meadows" to standing water, but might
do okay.
You might also try Iris setosa. It is an "arctic" iris, but some varieties
grow fine for me in zone 9, where a certain amount of shade is helpful.
Another possibility is Iris pseudocorus. It is frequently grown as a
water iris, but is, in fact, tolerant of a variety of conditions. Just be
warned that most varieties are large and a bit invasive.
