Rebloom was sparse here and even later than usual this year. So I am
delighted to have a few reblooming seedlings, even tho they don't live
up to my hybridizing goals. Only problem is that they are all rampant
growers, so are taking up more and more space without giving me blooms
for evaluation! Blooms on this one are nothing to write home about, but
greatly appreciated, plus it looks like it has pollen! Remarkable,
considering how much cold injury the stalk seems to have suffered.
I'm also delighted to see that several of my seedlings that germinated
this spring have multiple increases! So all that fussing around with
alfalfa cubes & Miracle Grow seems to have worked, at least for some of
them. The 'mother' rhizome on these is still small tho - they don't
look big enough to bloom next spring, but I'm new at this so don't know
if rhizome size matters much with seedling/maiden bloom?
Few seeds germinated this year, but of those that did come up, I am
really curious to see what the unknown variegata (possibly PT Barnum)
and DISCRETION crosses with IMMORTALITY look like. One seedling from
each cross is especially vigorous.
