I have a microscope. Don't have the kitchen tool though (slice and dice).
I section rhizomes ocationally. Have done some in the past with rot. Most of 
what I believe to be the rot paths are visable with the naked eye when you 
section the rhizome perpindicular to its axis. I have not tried to culture 
bacteria from the sections to confirm/identify them.
