I've noted that some plants, particularly the early blooming rebloomers, are rot resistant because when they start to grow early in spring (they seem to start growing before the once bloomers)they out grow the rot. That is the new growth is so strong that the rot just stops or disappears.
Here the problem with rot is predominatly in early spring when it is still cold and the water sits around on the top of the soil because the ground is still frozen and can't run off.
