Something I would find useful in chasing pedigrees would be something
like they use for horse characterization on some vet tests. It's a
diagram of a generic horse (for the particular breed?) with any
noteworthy color patterns drawn in.
What I'd love to have available would be a set of generic diagrams,
using a limited suite of color choices, that would show the general form
and pattern. These could never be used to ID something, but would be
helpful in trying to hybridize. Wouldn't it be nice if that were also
included for unintroduced seedlings in pedigrees? I don't know if
they'd be useful for much of anything else tho.
More work than will probably ever be added (more work than a series of
photos or links or any of the previous suggestions), but could probably
easily be generated by the database one of these days.
Something that would choose from multiple choice options -
type: Bearded, Siberian, etc
form: lots of choices - standards open, closed, domed, conical, missing,
flattened, etc, falls horizontal, ratio of width to length (strappy,
linear, rounded, overlapping, narrow)
branching/bud count -
ground color of: standards, falls, style arms (choose closest from list
of a few basic colors, maybe even the same ones used in the early
checklists?)
pattern types (amoena, narrow/wide plicata, narrow/wide rim, etc etc),
colors of patterned areas, adding new patterns & colors as necessary. ..
Dream on ...editing/entering database delimiters first... send pages...
