Re: Re: Hello...

Al...
I had transplanted the I. versicolor (that's what they look like to me and they were found in NW Minnesota) and found that the seed pods ripened and were quite full after the first year I planted them. At that time I thought little of the seeds as I was interested in the flowers but had little knowledge of planting and growing irises from seeds other than having heard it was difficult to do it.
Well, two years back before I moved to Oregon I'd placed some I. versicolor seeds in a container ( a couple hundred seeds, i'd guess). I had just found them a month back when I started transplanting bulbs to my newest home in Duluth, MN.
I'm not sure if the seeds will keep for more than one season, but I just planted some in peat pots and put them in the fridge to wait. I planted several outdoors as well... so who knows if these will be able to germinate or if they sat dormant too long.
Unfortunately I don't have anymore seeds to offer for exchange, but my plants should flower next season and hopefully offer some seed pods.
Thanks for the tips and websites info...

(Species Iris Group of North America). With your versicolor
background you would fit into the seed exchange and the hybridization
efforts of the species iris. Just the ability to collect fresh seed
is such an inducement. I've included the web sites for the American
Iris Society and SIGNA.
