Re: CULT: leaf spot

It sounds to me as if you might need a fungicide for leaf spot. If there is a good plant nursery in your area, take an infected leaf to them for confirmation. It may be too late to spray this year (I don't know where you live), but if this is leaf spot, you need to throw away all dead iris leaves and keep the beds clean as well as spraying.

Subject: [iris-talk] CULT: leaf spot

I am growing many varieties of TB's which I transplanted from my previous home, along with other irises such as LA's, SIB's and others. Toward the end of this past spring, I noticed the upper portion of the older leaves on the TB's had spots on them. They were round(many of them on some plants) with cream colored centers. I have several separate gardens all of which have TB's, but only one garden had the problem. Thinking it might be a deficiency in the soil, I fertilized with a "super-formula" from this group. The plants grew well, but the tips of the oldest leaves have become dry and withered. On some plants, the leaves have died off altogether and the plants look weaker. I believe I again made a wrong assumption that the drought had effected the plants, not a disease. The fall rains have returned and some plants look better, but many do not. Today I noticed another separate bed about 50 feet away looks like it is in the early stages of the same problem.

Does anyone recognize this problem, and is there a solution, short of destroying the effected plants? Thanks in advance.
