Now we're "on the same page".  

I've often used back-crosses, even to something quite old when I knew that it 
could contribute a full set of species chromosomes and I wanted to increase 
those traits in the line.  

But this is just one tool at the hybridizer's command.  Where I find it quite 
effective, many others are able to pursue their programs without resorting to 
the complexities of its use.
