Superphosphate on JI is good. The lethal substance for JI is
lime. Lime very bad. Plant go bye-bye. And fairly quickly too.
I am not sure what it is about lime. JI like acidic soil, but I have
seen them grow very, very well in near-neutral soil. This would lead
me to believe that the pH change is only one contributor to the lethality
of the lime.

Dear Al,
I don't think you were supposed to give Japanese Irises any
SuperPhosphate. I think I heard it was lethal to them?
I would give them acid, as in Pine needles or pine bark mulch this Fall &
acid fertilizer this Spring.
