Ah, to ever face such a dilemma! <g> I'll let you know what I decide to
do when I'm faced with that situation <LOL>
Not likely to happen with all the tough old junk I'm using in crosses.
Another way of looking at that question - would I want a rot prone iris
to win the Dykes? If I had a future Dykes' winner that was rot prone
would I want it to win and have to listen to all the griping like poor
EDITH has been subjected to? <g>
You make a good point about the $50 irises - other than not being able
to afford them in the first place, that's a good reason for me not to
buy new introductions. But that means I also am taking advantage of
other people who do buy them and do treat for rot. So I don't treat for
rot myself, but count on other people to do it to screen out the worst
rotters and tell me about the least rot prone, or the most able to
recover from rot.
<If you had a seedling that bloomed once and was a future Dykes' winner,
would you just let it suffer and die because it
got some rot? Walter Moores Enid Lake, MS USA 7/8>
