My 2-cents worth:
If it showed rot once in a bad year, or an occasional light touch, no.  They all do at times.  If it were a ROTTER, I'd either give up on it (and how could it be a potential Dykes?) or cross it with something hardier and eventually discard it once the desirable characteristics showed up in its offspring.
