Re: HYB: dwarfs in hot climates?

Thanks Joyce - I guess I should have specified southeastern high summer
humidity and drought without irrigation, not just heat. Especially
since what does well here seems to die in your part of the world and
vice versa. High nighttime soil temperatures?

I have quite a few medians that do extremely well here. Several years
ago, Ellen G was moving and asked for a southern babysitter for a bunch
of newly purchased medians (still in the box) until she got moved. It
was a great opportunity to screen a lot of cultivars for no outlay of
cash & I kept starts from a few of the best growers. Plus I have a few
of this 'n that from various list members (the ones I refer to as 'try
this, Linda' irises) & even one or two requested trades.

What I was referring to was the 'real' dwarfs - MDBs

<There are a lot of Medians that do fine in desert heat. In my yard
about
100-200 Medians grow and do well, increase and are the first to bring me

                       bloom every spring.
DR Weiler's Plum Wine, Tasco's Skyrays are two
SDB's that do particularly
                       well. Joyce Tucson Area
