Susan, try spare covers of some sort: blankets, quilts, table cloths, that
kinda thing. Even plastic will help, but you have to make sure it is off
early enough in the morning so the sun's rays doesn't create a small green
house & boil the iris. Iris are usually resistant down to 27. But even that
can be dangerous if it continues for three consecutive nights. Of course, a
little smudge pot would be handy if you have one hanging out in the shed or
garage! Hot water in old 2 liter drink containers, placed at the base of the
plant might help if it doesn't get too cold. (Could hang a little plastic
tent around & over the bottles.)
When I had more space, I potted them up and took them inside rather than miss
out on the bloom. I've a couple in pots that are trying to bloom. They will
definitely come inside. Violet Turner & Violet Miracle.
