I am surprised that no one has been able to verify the number of registered
iris cultivars. From reading posts on this thread it appears the on line
iris registry is not a reliable record of iris registrations. Does such a
record exist? Is there someone within the iris society that can be contacted
for this?
Donna Lockman did mention daylily registrations. The numbers for these are
readily available. There are a total of 50,827 registered daylilies as of
today. Of this there are 2,102 doubles, 751 unusual forms, 439 spiders, and
40 polytepals. In addition, there are also 3,743 names that are
pre-registered or reserved. The daylily society does publish a CD of all
daylily registration information at the cost of only $25. The yearly
release is the complete record up to the moment the CD is published and it
is highly searchable. I believe the next release will be the fifth year of
making the electronic check list available to everyone and it has proved to
be a huge success to the Society, hybridizers, growers, and everyone else
for that matter. In fact, there have been no negative effects of this and
the CD has proven to be a benefit in more ways than originally imagined.
