Holes punches work great on the mini blinds. I
get the cheapies at Walmart.
I somehow can't get myself to want to use a
numbering system. I know it takes longer to
write out the cross on the tag, but I just
don't do well trying to keeping a bunch of
numbers in my head. I'm always nosing around
to see what's taking, and getting the book to
look it up is more than I have the patience to
do. Then looking it up in the book to see what
the seedlings are is way more than I could
stand. I suppose I'll have to number the
seedlings when I decide to keep them or cross
with them. I like Linda's numbering system
which uses the cv's intials.
My biggest problem surprisingly is not keeping
the notebook and keeping track of everything.
Its that I can't seem to get out of that habit
of writing the pollen parent first. (book or
tag) Too many years of writing down horse
pedigrees where the sire is first. Having to
convert everything in my head when I work out
the complicated pedigrees makes it a real
challenge. At least when I find a tag on the
pod parent with the parents turned around it
gives me one more chance to catch the mistake.

Christian, do you have Excel? If I wanted to
do that I would make as many columns as you
wanted to sort for different characteristics.
Of course, someone who really knew how to use
Excel well would laugh at how I do things, but
I get it figured out in that uniquely "Robin"
way of doings things that I have.
