Zone 5 Fall Bloom Report- Mahoney State Garden

I was pretty proud today. I went out to check
on the rebloomer bed that I had started last
year out at the state park just below the Sass
Memorial Garden. There was a decent display
for such a young bed-- probably 30-40 stalks
thanks to LADY EMMA with at least 20. I dont
know for sure which ones are fall bloom vs.
rebloom (wouldve had to stay in town during
spring bloom season and manage to find the time
to go out and check more than twice) but it
surely will get peoples attention as they go
by on the walking/bike trail.

I have really done minimal maintenance, and
only a few supplemental waterings over the
summer. If you have the time, planting a
public garden is a very rewarding project and
can help generate interest in irises for your
club.

Heres what was blooming today:

BOUNTIFUL HARVEST
CONSTANT COMPANION (every plant, multiple
rebloom on some)
LADY EMMA (some stalks every month since July
in two mass plantings)
ROSALIE FIGGE (every plant)
BABY BLESSED (every plant)
AUTUMN EVENING
GOLDEN ENCORE
AUTUMN BUGLER
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT
IMMORTALITY (off and on all summer)
AUTUMN GLEAM (the checklist shows it as a
yellow self, this one looks cream with yellow
hafts. It is an IB and is blooming like crazy
right now. Ill have to double check the ID.)

These have stalks:
BARN DANCE
CERTAINLY, CERTAINLY
PINK ATTRACTION
EARL OF ESSEX
SUGAR BLUES
AUTUMN CIRCUS
AUTUMN TRYST
GRACE THOMAS
LENORA PEARL

and CLARENCE rebloomed in September

These are all old dependables, but I tried to
pick cvs that I was hoping would perform
without much fuss. Of course, weve had record
breaking temperatures this fall, and that helps.

If only I could get the rebloomers in my yard
to cooperate as well. I suppose it is asking a
lot to expect them to bloom the first spring
after being planted, set as many pods as you
can get to take, and then think they should
rebloom too.

Those three stalks it put up are in my sisters
yard.
