I always thought of buff as sort of a pale peach with a hint of brown.
Sort of like a warm tan. Hard to describe something that isn't quite
anything else. Common color in cats too (usually called "yellow").

I never knew "yellow" was a cat color. Been showing in several associations for 12 years and have lots of old books and pedigrees. That's a new one on me, unless you're taking about eyes and not fur. Even then, "gold" seems to be the preferred term for "yellow" eye color.

One of my cats is supposed to have "pinkish buff" markings according to her
breed standard (which was why I asked some time ago if anybody had a photo
of the iris BUFFAWN <g>). She looks salmon pink with deeper-colored tabby
markings on her face and body and a darker "buff" tail tip. Nothing "yellow"
about her except her formerly-copper eyes, but plenty of peachy and pink
tones.
