Re: HYB: pigments & Immortality

Yesterday, I said:
<I don't think it [IMMORTALITY] has any pink pigment expressed, but
somewhere got the idea that
it carries pink/yellow (capacity to make pink in
descendants).>

Got an offlist note that this wasn't quite right, so let me try
again....

What I meant is that IMM is <not> pink, does <not> have pink pigment,
does <not> have yellow pigment, for that matter. So there is no point
in extracting pigments - the oil soluble pigments just aren't there. I
think <g>

<But> IMM has the genes to pass along that can result in pink pigment
when combined with the 'right' other parent.

There are two registered pink children from IMM in the online database -

Betty's RETURNING CHAMELEON and Spoon's MIDSUMMER'S EVE: (IMM X
ENCHANTED WORLD). ME is a pink/peach pink bitone. EW is a bright
rose-pink.

Unless I've totally missed something, you can't get pink "tet" TBs
unless both parents contribute at least two sets of the genes for it.
So IMM 'carries' the genes for pink, but isn't pink itself. Hope that's
clearer.
